Anybody there with the new P990i smartphone? Just purchased mine yesterday but i am having lots of trouble with it. Main features like Menu , calculator, tools , phone settings , master reset and lots of others are nowhere to be seen. i have checked and checked and checked through out the phone memory but NO DICE, they are just not there. MASTER RESET ( HARD RESET ) to devices like Jasjar thru wich the phone can be set to factory default can be selected when you go to > Menu > Tools >control panel> Master reset, but in my case there is no such options.
I then tried to update the Rom from Sonyericsson website thru a program they call Sonyericsson update service ( SEUS )but for more than 18hrs now i have been connected to the internet waiting for the upgrade to finish and 'am getting this message "please wait downloading phone software ". Is this normal for the upgrade to take so long ?Please help.

Havent tried that device or any SE device.... but give it a try to normal reset and re-download the update

No way have tried all that.

Anyways, the reason the software appears to be continously downloading is because you probably have a firewall running in the background which is blocking the update but the stupid program fails to tell you that. SE have the worst updating service EVER. Thats one of the reasons why i jumped ship to a Windows Mobile device. Just turn off your firewall, clean your cache and restart the update service. That should hopefully solve the problem.

Also, i don't get how your device doesn't show basic settings and so on. Seems like you got a dodgy device or a pre-production device with an incomplete ROM. In anycase, a ROM update should be able to solve your problem.

Please correct me if i am wrong on any account.

I've had the 900 and the 910 and the download is hard work.

I can't remeber the reset routine sorry but I guess it's a six digit number check the manual

I was just going to the shop to buy SE M600i as my second phone but stopped as soon as i read this. Someone also told me it is not simple to sync with outlook as I want all my tasks and contact synced. I'm having a JJ right now but while travelling i need two. Please anyone can suggest any other phone as a second mobile/pda but small so it will be easy for me to carry. Sohaib.

Master Docc you are very right.Why on earth did i waste 3100 dirhams on so stupid device ? I bought it in Dubai and it is on it's way back as i am writing this. My hope is for them to take it back and exchange with i don't know what? And if they refuse, who will help talk to my wife, Stevee Baby ? This is right up your alley.

The menu items are there but you have to open the flip to see them. Try reading the manual.

Docc and I both have JJ's and Smartflip best of both worlds IMO and no trouble synching etc
