Fellow PPCD members

I know there seems a flurry of articles about UMPC's

Don't worry we havent forgotten our core stuff

We still love all PDA/Phones just us gadget freaks can't resist reporting on the latest gizzmo's

We understand all haven't got a bottomless wallet and the search is still on for the ulimate PDA vs Cost

Your understanding is appreciated whist we discuss the ultimate on offer for mobility, but at the end of the day we still all want a good robust PDA/phone inconjuction with any other device, I hope this is clear

regards
Steve

P.S. as long as it's not a "N" phone rofl

SteveJ,

Ooppss! Embarrassed

I’m sorry I didn’t inform you earlier, it is my mistake, I am actually expanding the site to include UMPCs as part of Pocket PC Dubai. I’m redefining the site. I should’ve made an announcement instead of mentioning it in this thread: http://pocketpcdubai.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/695604964/m/2231082091

This is a partial abstract:
“Since Pocket PC Operating system changed to Windows Mobile, Pocket PC Dubai became more related to everything “Pocketable” from Windows, which means Windows mobile for Pocket PC, for Smartphone and Windows for UMPC or Ultra-Portable PC (UPC)”

Today I was thinking to add it to “About Us” page. It is true that we have a single general forum for UMPCs (http://pocketpcdubai.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/frm/f/7391048471) however it is too early to classify it into sections since the devices are less and it is an early technology.

Again, sorry for this gap of communication.

No problem spotted that already

UMPC's are too important to miss out on

But we must remember that most find it hard to justify a full PDA over a phone let alone a UMPC

We of course delight in ths high tech gizzmo's but most are happy with an upgrade too there standard phone.

We must not forget these, in our lust of the latest and greatest, all are equally important in thier own way.

Thanks for your opinion! Just like you I’ve been following the progress of Pocket Technology and I remember that this was the same notion when I had my own CE Handheld, there were so many skeptics, then there was the stand alone PDA without the mobile feature integrated, there were so many people who were very religious about the form how the PDA should be, too many were against a built in radio module then they have seen how everything changed in this exciting development. PPCD started out for PPC not PPCPE, it doesn’t matter to me I am very thrilled to witness these changes in this technology and in our own website! Personally, I have a very positive outlook for UMPCs, maybe I’m one of the very few people who think this way, but only time will tell! Wink

This is a message to all members:

I never expected to receive some negative responses to this topic! I am very disappointed to be honest! sad I feel I need to clear your doubts and even future concerns as follows:

First, this is not a disagreement between me and Steve, it is up to any member or even Admin member to express their opinions honestly without boundaries unless these comments violates the law. Even we (Admins) have our own internal debates which is something very normal, it doesn’t mean we don’t get along (as someone suggested! Grumble). Everyone on Pocket PC Dubai is entitled to his/her own opinion, no one is allowed to put words in anyone’s mouth and no one forces their opinions, in fact “opinions” is one of the most important elements that made Pocket PC Dubai where it is today. Wink

Second, I have already mentioned that it was a misunderstanding, in fact a miscommunication, and it was my fault, I normally gather Admin members and discuss the changes before they happen but now I taken the liberty to implement the changes without making a timely public announcement, the main reason is that almost all Admin members are very busy with their own personal lives such as Saad, Docc and Clueless. Even Steve had just started to return to the site after a long absence, nevertheless all of them are contributors and volunteers they have their own commitments, so I got accustomed to create the changes involving SKP even in major site development without much internal dissipation of information. Hence Steve was not informed, whether he agrees to the changes or not, we normally discuss this internally, so I caused this confusion and he felt it is necessary to alert the readers that everything is OK and we didn’t loose focus of our main content on the site. And I appreciate this action!

Third, you must have noticed many UMPC related topics are published, but notice also that most of those topics are published in the “General Discussion” area which is open to all members. It is a very normal practice to populate any new forum with threads to give the community a jump-start to participate in it. Also, the front page is displaying more UMPC related stories, and those actually are not intentionally published to take over Pocket PC items, but whenever there is news sent to me or gathered by myself I will publish whatever I have them in-hand, for example if there is no Pocket PC news you might see more Smartphone stories. The good news that (Masha-Allah) now the site is even more active with more varieties of contents published, even the amount of readers have enormously increased since the last two weeks, unique visits per day went from a mere ~1200 (During our slow season) to ~4300 per day! 90% of those are from search engines! I am glad that the site is becoming more popular, thanks to our members and our contributors. Way to go

Forth, no one mentioned anything about this point, but I will clear it out before anyone jumps to any misunderstanding, because on Pocket PC Dubai we don’t give the readers buying advice on an “overly” expensive device, you will always notice since the site went online in 2003 we take price as a key factor to decide buying any device. We have dismissed many devices because they were too expensive. If you think UMPCs are too expenses and they don’t deserve to be on this site, you are WRONG! I don't Think So Because Asus R2H is now AED 3699, either it is a good product or not, we can even recommend a more expensive product if it is more stable and offers more “value for money”. Cheap doesn’t always mean that the price is low! I-Mate Jasjar was launched at a price tag of AED 4400 on it’s first day! If I went and purchased this device it doesn’t mean you have to do the same thing, I don’t expect anyone at the right mind to do that, unless obsessed with me and that is highly unlikely! lol For example, on an automobile TV show, the presenters review many vehicles, cheap and expensive, they also share their obsession with vehicles and in some episodes they talked about which vehicle they own or going to buy soon, it is very interesting for the audience to know of course, two of them went to buy a car each worth (approx.) ~One Million Dirhams! Dose that mean that they should do the same thing! Bangin Or do they recommend on that program for viewers to be like them! The passion for something forces to compromise whether you are rich or poor, for example if I went to buy AED 7000 Laptop I already have a budget for it, I allocate the budget to buy something instead of something else. This should not make you think that I am a rich person; I just manage my finance, thanks to my wife. Wink Let me make this clear: I DON’T PROMOTE OVER SPENDING, I don’t show off with my new gear/gadgets, I love to share and pass the experience to you so you can make a better decision.

Fifth, we follow the progress of mobile technology, but we don’t get stuck in time. Help Preferences are changing with the new development in this technology. At the time when we launched the site, Pocket PC Phones were not popular! Actually people were against the idea of a built-in radio module, at that time you can easily justify buying a stand a alone PDA, click here to read one of those article, this is just one sample, go to other popular forums and dig deep you will find aggressive discussions. Of course later things changed because the technology have changed, but some people are very religious about their concepts and applications, now I remember those people and find it kinda funny that now they changed with the technology. Smile Now, you cannot justify buying a stand alone PDA unless it is a phone! Wink But now we have a new concept that might even change your mobile world, it is the UMPC and it might play an important role to change concepts and preferences. I honestly don’t know! Roll Eyes I want to try and see how things will work, as always I consider myself as a beta tester or an early adopter. This topic is a good example of what I am trying to achieve. Smile

Finally, I hope there should be no confusion, and I hope our readers understand that we don’t have financial motives towards what we post, even though we have sponsors and advertisers on the site (somebody has to pay the hosting bill!) naughty, we still publish rumors and honest opinions, the purpose behind spending our time on this site and volunteering is our passion towards this technology. We hope we continue to grow and to stay online as long as we are alive. People go people come but Pocket PC Dubai is here to stay! Insha-Allah Group Hug

I hope I didn’t take much of your time, I felt it is necessary to take it out and set the record straight. This topic will be moved to read-only section as I don’t see any reason why it should continue to receive replies since the matter is cleared out between us, please contact me if you feel you want to say something I will reopen the topic again if it is necessary.
