I'm looking at Tablet PC's and find the field to be a bit limited and not exactly confidence inspiring.
I'm leaning towards the Acer C314XMI, but, I have found some bad reviews on it. At the other end of the spectrum, I like the Gateway CX2600, CX200. It has a real bad display mount that wobbles side to side. Sign me dazed and confused... |

Hi wes,
Well the Acer C314XMI seems to be one of the better tablet pc's in the market with regards to its specs (fast processor and the best video card for a tablet pc). However, this device is very heavy for a tablet pc and I don’t think Acer have the best support. So if you don’t mind these issues, the C314XMI is a great machine. Gateway is a big no-no for me. Their laptops break really fast so I wouldn’t trust them with tablet pcs. I suggest that you also check the Toshiba R15 Series. It is very comparable to the Acer with a difference in the video card (Toshiba’s is a shared video card) so if you are not planning to do a lot of gaming or photoshopping, I would suggest the toshiba knowing their superior build and their good support. |

Thanks for the 411. I went out tonight and looked at several stores just to see and feel and try some. What a joke. Every one I found, was broke!
I did play with the R15-829s at a CircuitCity, but again, it was missing the stylus...and they had no more in stock. Argghh! For the price, $1099.00, I really liked it. Maybe tomorrow I'll drive further north and check out some other stores. I can't find anyone who carries Acer, only online. Funny you should say that about Gateway laptops. I have a 4026, a real P.O.S.! I bought it as a backup if/when my Sager goes down. Believe me, it makes me cringe just to fire it up. LOL Thanks again. |

Does it have to be a tablet PC?
If you want something ultraportable, you should look at Sony TX series or the LG TX series. Both are amazingly small and are quite dependable considering they have a 9 hours battery life!!!! Docc. |

Thank you so much for the advice. I bought the only R15 i could find within 60 miles of me. :>) I like it, except for the wobbly screen. I installed 1GB of Ram and spent the weekend tweaking it and getting to "know" my first tablet pc. This is gonna' be such a great tool for me. Thanks again. |

Thanks for the help and replies, fellas.
I wound up buying the Toshiba R15-S829. I gave it a lot of thought. Since I will only be using it sign and send contracts while I'm on the road in my truck, it just didn't make sense to buy something more expensive/powerful. I have been using it for a few weeks now, and it's working out just fine. Thanks again. |
