Colleagues,

I am writing to you today to share with you my experience with my new toy Smile

I have been searching now for years for a windows based phone/PDA that could provide me with the flexibility of a phone (standalone) and PDA equipped with SMS functionality that uses the stylus. Additionally, i wanted to have a phone/PDA with good battery consumption. I wanted a phone/PDA built to last, i.e. sturdy and use of material of good quality. I wanted a phone with an excellent microphone and sound capability. I wanted a phone/PDA with the right subtle colours. I wanted a phone/PDA that is reliable and doesn't crash where soft reset and hard reset shouldn’t be sought unless in extreme emergencies.

Well, all of the above I found in my new i750. In addition, I got as bonus (though it did not really matter for me) a 2 mega pixel with flash camera and WiFi...

With the additional software I have from Handango. I could easily say, eureka! I found it...

NB. I did a hard reset to test drive the machine running with windows 2003 2nd edition. I might say I was extremely impressed. Yes, it did delete the installed programs but it left all my contacts intact as well as my phone settings.

Congrats on your new PDA shame not WM5 other wise a nice device

Thers a good review here

mobile-review.com

Conclusion
The network reception quality is at a good level. The melody volume is limited with a relatively quiet speaker, which is integrated in the joystick. The vibrating alert is average. You have to install extra application, for example, Photo Contacts PRO, to assign an MP3-melody or a photo to the contact.

Should Samsung i750 be released in the beginning of 2005, it would have been a sales hit, but in the beginning of 2006 it is not that attractive. The main reprimand relates to the old OS version. Despite of the fact that developers applied much effort to update Windows Mobile 2003 SE, it won't completely replace WM 5.0. As for the weak points, they are a 2.36" screen (the charge for a smaller size), too thick side. We won't say anything about the battery life so far.

Positive moments: smallest dimensions on the market (except for the thickness), high assembly quality, rare form for the communicator (slider), high quality camera, card recognition, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, TV-out.

The model will come out in February 2006 at $650-700 without the contract.

The formula of the hit on the eve of CeBIT 2006 and 3GSM 2006. The formula is simple: take Samsung i750, make it slim (15-16 mm) and slightly lower, equip it with Windows Mobile 5.0 and serve it (to the market) hot!

Dear Steve,

Thank you for your reply and reference. You know, I had my first i-mate during the launch 5 or 6 years ago. Ever since, I cannot tell you how many devices I had (the 1st early device to the JasJar through an Eten G500)and the agonizing experience I had to pass through. In any event, this is all washed out by my new toy that I am getting more fond of by the day.

Thank you again for your kind consideration and your usual excellent contributions.

Respectfully,
Mouse

Dear Steve,

I would be appreciative during the course of your rsearch if you find accessories such as high power batteries, additional desktop holder, protective screen, belt cover...etc. Please share the information with me. By the way, I complemented the Applications with auto SMS reply, Smart Filter and XCPUscalar 2006. That way, I am fully covered.

Again, much obliged,
Mouse

With XCPUscalar 2006 just be carefull IMO

For screen protector just buy eg a Jasjar one and cut it down to size with a sharp blade

Now all you need is GPS and maps rofl

Hi Mouse,

WOW... this is THE phone to get (I am sure there will be a WM5 ROM upgrade soon ..).

Can I ask where you bought this from and how much? English version?

I live in Oz and we never get the good stuff - would love to buy it online if possible.

thx,
nJ

Dear nJ,

I am happy that you think the same way as I did when I bought the device. First to answer your question, I bought it in Cairo for LE 4,500 andI know that it exists in Dubai for Dhs. 2,499 (at least the last time I checked). On-line! hummm! I don't know about that, i.e. which websote supports such product on-line. I will search for you though and if found, I will drop you an email.

Now, the best part. I have been using this device now for sometime and i need to tell you that it is the most stable, efficient and nice looking PDA/mobile of htem all. The keypad with numbers is awesome!

I wish you all the best when buying htis very useful toy, may it brings you all times good news! Smile

Best regards,
Mouse

Dear pocman,

I do not think that you can do the upgrade for various reasons some of which are realted to licensing issues, other to hardware challenges...etc. However, I cannot claim that I am an expert. I guess SteveJ (Forum contributing editor) is more capable than me to fully address this issue.

Nonehtless, I am of the belief that this phone with its already existing capabilities is a wonder!

Best regards,
Moustapha
