Hi all,

I am using ActiveSync to retrieve emails from our company Exchange server and do this using the GPRS connection. It works fine within the UAE but whenever i go out of the country it never works. I have tried it in USA,UK and some middle eastern countries but it didn't work anywhere.

In connections, i only have Etisalat settings(access point as etisalat.ae and no username or pass) stored and i do have a global roaming package on my SIM. Phone calls works fine when i am traveling.

I contacted Etisalat on this but they say that they don't support HTC PDAs.

Any help?

I think it depends if country has receprical arrangement with Etisalat and you need to use that counrty settings usually you get a sms with a help number as you get off the plane

SteveJ, according to Etisalat they have receprical agreement with most countries but i don't which. Is there anyway to get a list of all the countries with whom Etisalat has a agreement?

I don't think we have to enter different settings for each country as Etisalat setting should work everywhere.

I think it's true for calls and recieving sms, not always sending sms

But for GPRS etc I'm not so sure

In some countries pay as you go "Wasel" works better than full roaming

Often you have to use *101* number # trick

Usually I just buy a local sim it's far easier and cheaper and no 2000Dhr deposit

It is on Etisalat's site but if you can nav your way round that useless menu of thiers good luck

I tried the 101 number trick and as expected their answer was of no help. According to them, whenever i got out of the country i should run a network search on my PDA and then select any network of the country which i am in. Whats the use of global roaming then? *confused*

Sorry the 101 abroard is so you can dial out/back to UAE or elswhere on your wasel pay as you go, not to be confused with just 101 to get help (ish) in UAE

Roaming is more likely to work for calls than wasel and sometimes allows for sms where wasel never seems to allow sms outbound.

My wife who has roaming but never uses gprs so i can be sure but I think your lucky if it works, wasel never seems to work.

Blackberry push seems an agreed format in many countries supporting it so should work on any device that uses it, not sure if you have to have roaming for it abroard though.

IMO best have a wasel in a cheap phone for incomming calls/sms with a wasel sim and use your normal good phone with a cheap local sim when abroard

BTW seaching for local network wont help as (eg spain) has several service providers not all have agreements with etisalat.

We found this out as my wife connected to one and did not work but my wasel connected to another and did, we forced my wifes phone to connect to the same service then she was ok

I have an HTC touch phone. I know a lot has been said on this. But despite my numerous attempts and calls to etisalat I have still not been able to make my GPRS work. Can any body help me on this. Has anyone been able to solve this issue. I have GSM connection (not wasel).

SteveJ, Etisalat does not offer any help. They say they do not have any settings for this phone. Even if try to get it by auto settings, you get the same message that they don't have it for this phone.

Thanks & Regards

Whasan
