A WM5 compatible version of Bitstream's Thunderhawk browser is now available.

The only difference between this and the previous version is that you can now start the browser by clicking on the thunderhawk eye even when the Jasjar is in the landscape mode. In the previous version you needed to first rotate the screen to portrait and then click on the eye otherwise the program would get confused and need a soft reset.

Kind Regards

Meh...

I am not particularly fond of thunderhawk. Yes, it was great before when landscape orientation wasn't supported. It still does render pages quicker but with more useful browsers like Netfront and Opera on the horizon, who needs thunderhawk. Besides it also needs yearly subscription which IMO is pretty silly....

Access have posted the Technical Preview Version 3.3 / Release 103 of their Netfront Browser on their website.

Now they specifically mention that this is compatible with WM5 althouth not fully verified.

I have tested it and it works.

Opera Browser for Pocket PC compatible with WM5 is now available in Beta form for a 45 days trial. Visit Opera website.

I have downloaded and briefly tried it. These are my views:-

After a brief trial:

1) Page rendering is probably the best (better than PIE and Netfront 3.3)

2) Does not handle mail attachments in web based e-mail accounts such as Gmail. Both PIE and Netfront 3.3 do support file attachments.

3) Does not support flash sites though I have Macromedia flash player 6.0 on my Jasjar and PIE uses it. Netfront will take advantage of flash sites once the commercial version is available.

4) In terms of speed Opera appears to be the fastest compared to PIE and Netfront 3.3

5) Don't know if there is a way to define a user-agent because in its current form it forces us to mobile versions of web sites. I could not visit my hotmail site and it forces me to the mobile msn site. Likewise for http://www.handango.com

So all in all I have mixed feelings regarding this browser. Good in some areas but not the best. For my needs Netfront is still the overall winner. (However these are just my views)

Again may be it is only me but after I have used and closed opera (really closed) it prevents Planmaker to start up. I have to reset the Jasjar to be able to use planmaker again

Kind Regards

Can anyone post a link to this file? I went to www.bitstream.com but they had the same version I have now and it still freezes if opened in landscape mode.

Thx

Hi Jasman

Bitstream actually posted a link to the download to their existing customers. Unfortunately I do not have their e-mail anymore.

However I do have the file on my computer.

I am not too sure whether the policy of this site would allow me to legally post such files. If Docc and all agree kindly do let me know and I will post the file on this forum. Also I would like to know how a file can be uploaded to the site.

Kind Regards

Hi RMZ,

The upgrade to WM5 is only available for members (as of now) as your mentioned. I am sorry, i cannot allow you to share this file as that would be against Bitstream's and our policy. Ofcourse had Bitstream allowed it, we would have no problem, and if they did, well people could have got it off their website itself Wink

Also, if you would like to upload any file, please send it to us for verification and then we will give you the permission to upload it. We have to maintain this system to keep the boards clean, i hope you understand Smile
