About two weeks ago I bought an HTC TyTN II from Cellucom in Abu Dhabi. Got home and lo and behold the manual was only in Arabic... OK I printed the English one I downloaded from the HTC site...

Tried to get the GPRS services to work and had to take the phone to their service centre where they flashed the ROM to make it work! How can they expect customers to deal with an intimidating operation like that?

The GPS mapping software included with the device works on the phone, but the desktop companion software (which is the ONLY way to upgrade the gps maps to more than the single city which is included for free) is defective and crashes when you try to buy maps.

The worst of all is that the battery dies in standby mode after only 5-6 hours! I took the device in to Cellucom today and to my shock met 2 other people returning HTC TyTN IIs for the SAME REASON... power drain!

Is anyone else having battery problems with the TyTN II? I am starting to be afraid I have bought a lemon...

I use COMM manager to turn off wifi, blutooth. GPS is off (as CoPilot is the only tool that uses it). I am however using Push Email with a connection back to our corporate exchange server... this works nicely BTW... :-)

Try selecting network manually rather than automatic

Strangly enough i'm in Hatta these last few days and had to do this to get a connection as the full 3G was so poor i could not even make a
call

BTW a quick way to get to this menu is just tap the reception bar on the main screen
