I have noticed the following shortfalls in the new i-mate:
1. Back up does not work with Arabic applications i.e. IMAGiNET applications. Therefore, when you restor the data from the back up file, all arabic applications will not be restored. In other word, the back up can not be utilized for those who required Arabic applications
2. If an SMS contains a number for example SMS from etisalat directoty (181) there is no link between the SMS and phone dialer, therefore, you have to cut and paste in order to call that perticular number.
3. Also there is no link between the inbox (email application) and the web browser (internet explorer). So if you recieved an email contains a web site address(URL) you have to copy the web address from the email and paste it in the internet exploere.
4. Of course as Mohd. mentioned in his review, PPC 2003 does not support File transfare over the bluetooth despite the PPC 2002.

1. Which backup program you are using? I know that xbackup is a lousy application, I use Pocket Backup and it works flawlessly.

2. This is not i-mate problem. Thats the issue with Windows Mobile 2003. Wink

3. Very weird Very Confused , I don’t have this problem, actually I never had this problem before, with Pocket email an attached link will appear attached in my received email and when I click it will take me to Pocket Explorer immediately. Do you mean HTML messages? Or just link they don’t open Pocket Explorer?

4. Yes, this is the only issue irritates me with i-mate Mad I hope they come up with a fix soon.

Saif,
1. I am not talking about a third party application. The pocket Backup is an additional $20. Back up is a major requirement which must be supported by i-mate.
2. Hardware + software = imate. Yes, developers are different but from the customer point of view it is a one piece
3. Yes, u r right, links are wroking.

I do agree with you. But I want you to know that from my experience I never been satisfied with any backup program from the entire pocket PCs I’ve owned previously, except for iPAQ, which is using Pocket Backup bundled as a default Backup program.

Guys,

On the XDA and MDA there is IA presentation and PDF reader in the Office bundled programs in the rom. Can anyone advise me how to add them to rom? I know they exisit as seperate programs but they sit in Ram if I install them. When one does a hard reset, how can I include them in the rom installation with .cab execution?

Please advise by email if you can.

Many thanks and best regards,

Gilbert

Gilbert,

The XDA II is bundled with Westtek applications. Our i-mate is offered for the Middle East region with Imaginet Pocket Arabizer Suite. You will not be able to install the cab files in the restricted area in ROM, you can only install them in RAM or in file store in ROM. It is not going to be installed by default after a hard reset.

Dear Dayim,

I don't know what do you mean by saying that PPC 2003 does not support File transfer over the bluetooth!?

If you mean file transfer between to bluetooth devices then be informed that its working and i tested it myself. I have a bluetooth adapter on my PC and i can send and receive files easly!

What i have done is: click on the file that i want to transfer and select Beam File, then it will search for any Infrared connection wait few seconds then it will start looking for bluetooth devices now click on "Tap to send" and enjoy it!

Way to goSystematic, yes it working. Thanks.

I have a general question regrding the Backup. As you know, the current imate backup does not support arabic applications. Thus I have not install the new ROM update since it requrieds a full reset. I niether want to lose the installed programs and settings nor losing the arabic applications.Any one has a solution?

Pocket Backup is working very nice with Backup, but for restore it is skipping more than 10 files and finally failed to restore the machine. So, we have to hard Reset and Redo every thing again... I contact Pocket Backup Developers and they are working in a fix for this issue. I'm using middle east i-mate...

Agreed! I’ve noticed intermittently it will complete the backup “successfully” but with some errors. That’s an issue hopefully will be addressed by Sprite.
