Hi all
just got my JAMin last night and first impressions are not good. I have used the PDA 2K until now and i find the JAMin quite a step back. Its size is the only plus I can give it. Nice that you can hold the power button for 5 seconds andd the phone turns off (properly) However on start up it take 1 minute + to totally power up. This is crazy. I have inserted a 128 SD card and now every time i activate a function or get a call it tells me that it has detected a card and would I like to search it for video/ audio files. Vido playback is extremly choppy to the point that it is not watchable. The power switch is too near the stylus. I find that when trying to get the stylus out i constantly power off. the volume button is quite flimsy and does not feel very secure. Software problems are that the touch keyboard on the phone mode are too small and quite hard to activate. I would also like the ability to delete the programmes which I dp not reuire on the system (Arabic for example All in all I am not happy with this unit and wish I had stuck with the PDA 2K.

Hi Joe,

Sorry about the problems with your device.

As i mentioned in my review, the JAMin is fairly slow in comparison to Xscale devices. Regarding the audio/video file detection, uncheck the media sync option in activesync. This will prevent the device from asking you this question repeatedly.

Video playback is choppy because of the slow processor, and thats something i mentioned in my review too. I too was disappointed with it especially after comparing it to my previously owned PDA2k and currently owned i-mate Jasjar.

Regarding button placement, well it depends on how large one's fingers are. I have average sized hands and didn't find the button placement to be a problem as such. I found the volume slider also to be good enough.

I didn't understand the touchscreen keyboard problem you were having. Were you referring to the phonepad or were you referring to the full keyboard? In anycase, since the screen-size is pretty small, the data0input panel will also proportionally decrease in size.

Regarding the arabic programmes, you can uninstall them from the add/remove applet under settings. You could have prevented them from installing in the first place by declining the user-agreement for Imaginet software. My suggestion would be to soft-reset your device just before the Ext.ROM begins installing as i have noticed that this considerably increases the speed of the device and also prevents the proprietary i-mate junk from installing.

If you have any other troubles/queries, feel free to ask Smile

Regards,
Docc.

Docc.

I have aways found they install regardless of selecting decline and they don't uninstall properly I've always had to finish the job of manually. I seem to recall there's an option somewhere to stop the SD card being searched all the time. Else Joe90 (of Gerry Andersons Fame I presume Big Grin) confirms my suspision again the JAMin is for ex JAM'ers Smile

Well, the reason the device looks for media files is because with AS 4, there is now an option to sync media. The device automatically searches for media files with every sync and whenever external media cards are inserted. Best thing is to disable this in AD options on the device itself.

Regarding the Arabic software, i think its a SIGN that you need to learn Arabic Big Grin I suppose thats the least you can do for being in this wonderful city!!! Yalla Habibi!!! Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

Thanks Guys and Docc. All good info. I guess I need to appriciate it for what it has. Docc, do you mean do a hard reset and then a soft reset to speed up the machine and when does the ext.rom start loading. Also one other item. Is it possible to not have the list of 10 previous applications show when i tap start??

Thanks again for all the info

Hey Joe Smile

Yes, first hard-reset the device. Then when the device setup begins, wait till the screen that asks you to choose your operator to setups GPRS etc. This is where you need to do a soft-reset. Soft-resetting at this point will prevent the Ext.Rom from loading thus preventing all the i-mate junk from loading Wink

Regarding the commonly used applications showing up, i will have to get back to you on that.

You don't need to do it from the hardware buttons. Just tap on the clear storage application in settings and then type 1234, and thats it, back to factory state Wink
