I have an annoying issue.

I have a wifi connection that connects to work, all is fine. I can remote desktop, sync emails no problems but I cannot connect to the internet, if I fire up any internet apps they always want to connect via GPRS. But if I change the wifi connection to say it connects to the internet it then cant see my work servers and always wants to use the VPN.

My work wifi has internet access. How can I have my JAMin (WM5) connect via wifi, to work but still have internet access?

Many Thanks

I suspect that your work uses proxies from each PC ask your IT department how it's configured.

Nope, I am the it department, I also design networks for our clients. Our internet access is just plain old NAT.

The only way to get it to use the work wifi for internet is to say in the network card settings that it is connected to the internet, but then when I try to remote desktop it wants to open the VPN frustrated

I had similar problem when I had my cable modem linked via one PC and then to a wifi via small office network

I could only connect to directories using a filemanager like total commander or Resco when I had it set to internet

When I swapped to wifi router direct to modem It seems less troublesome

If an app can find the internet it automatically finds the next route usually GPRS

Try clearing all the settings ie back to default and just set up the internet connection first

It seems WM5 has 2 options for any connection. Work or Internet and many built in apps are hard coded to only use one or the other.

File manager for example is coded for Work. My wifi at home is set to be internet, try to map a drive and it wants to fire up the VPN (which then converts an internet connection to a work one). Despite me wanting to connect to a pc on my home network, I had to change my wifi connection to Work for a moment then back again.

Its just annoying you cant simply set a list of the order it should try to connect in.

Another annoying thing is if im on out and about and i just click for the VPN to connect it wont. It tried to launch a GPRS connection under the work settings but then will not connect, the connection needs to be internet. ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!

Why cant they just realise. Work and home both connect to teh web, both have PC's I want to terminal server into, both have PC's I want to map drives to!!!!

Yep seems that way fortunatly I connect at home via activsynch to wifi laptop and cut out most of the problems but it's avoiding the issue I know
