I got some info that this device is going to be released in Dubai but there is no definite date, I just hope it is not released very late due to the flurry of new device coming from HTC, i-Mate and O2.
Specs known so far:

But we cannot believe the ASUS guys here in dubai, they are not serious about their products' marketing.
It happened for Asus P525 they kept postponing the launch for many months and finally when they launched - it was already outdated as the market already had O2 exec and JASJAM on sale. Again this time for Asus P526, a similar looking imate ultimate 8150 would be on sale around mid 2007 if they are going to delay it. |

pocman,
I totally agree! If they don't release it on time then they should never release it. I think the current ASUS distributors will not be releasing this device or even other ASUS PDAs, I heard that there are some major new developments, maybe another new distributor will be assigned.

I always think the UAE market is a lot different to European or US. Given the diversity of the population there seems many reasons why one should buy this over that when it comes to brands and country of origin. No wonder many devices don't get here or are late or never make it big. I know we have discussed some of these strange reasoning before especially whe it comes to country of origin issues. I always quote when the co-op that had 3 identical Phillips vacume cleaners one assembled in Holland one assembled in Taiwan and the other from Korea all with different prices. The non-european guys in the office would only buy the one from Holland due to stigma and some belief that the components were inferior for the other two. It's a vacume cleaner for heavens sake They even apply this ruling to big brands like Sony. Do they honestly believe that Sony would damage thier reputation and have more returns if the quality was not the same for al thier parts Go to Jumbo and they will use made in Japan as a selling point or charge more over Tiawan one, just because of this and not shipping / manuafacturing costs. If you read most mags on phones/pda's/TV/HiFi etc from the US/UK hardly ever is counrty of origin a selling point and I have never seen a comparision on identical models of different origin. These guys will even distinguish between Nokia made in Europe over Far East. I never came accross this issue in UK/Europe, as long as you buy a quality brand with it's warranty, is what counts. Getting people on to PDA and UMPC is hard enough without these extra issues and confuses the market IMO rgds Steve Rgds Steve |

Very well said, Steve....and even I used to wonder at times by these issues and get confused.
Still when one has taken the distribution why do they have to delay based on all these adverse expectations instead they should focus more on their media campaign and I strongly believe the advertisements they come up will do the trick which these ASUS (even other smaller brands which do have great features) I never saw a major advert in any mag for ASUS P525 but surprised to see this instrument was silently sitting in one display of a shop. When I say advert its not just one pic of the device and a few major specs, it should do what imate and sony ericsson are doing which focuses on the practical usage and how it adds value to the lifestyle |

We have an expression: "You can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink" This may well be the problem that advertising takes a long time to change some public opion Actually on our flavour of the month UMPC are probably easy to sell to new consumers as a mini PC has so much in common with your big brother at work/home so no supprises just compramises due to format/size. Getting someone to part with a phone and go to PDA is probably much harder IMO as they would consider it learning something new where a UMPC wouldnot. rgds Steve Rgds Steve |

Exactly you only have to learn where the buttons and scroll is on a UMPC I think this is why "N" phones are still popular, It's nothing to do with product loyaly just most don't want to learn something new IMO rgds Steve Rgds Steve |
