I cant use the full functionality of Windows in the office environment - for the fact of security over the network. So, its ruled out.

Phone with BT headset - I am used to it. And the problem will be

  • BT headset drains out of battery Big Grin
  • Receiving a late night calls - office calls comes during sleep rofl
  • passing the phone to nearby person for calls Wink

  • Sorry M8 pretty lame excuses IMO

Most work place don't allow outside device connectivity, but what about all the plus points/software on a full windows platform.

You wont be able to email work to yourself and edit it in a full MSoffice, and email it back (like I do to get around connectivity problems)

BT drains battery life Jawdrop maybe on your old PDA2K but there is much smarter handling these days and I never worry about permently leaving BT on.

Passing the phone ?, why most have a speaker phone option or just tap your headset button twice to return control back to handset, easy grinning

I suspect most integrated UMPC with sim will have a sleep mode or put your docking station next to your bed for your late night calls

Come on you know you want a UMPC Smile

    SKP,

I remember that you mentioned that you needed a big screen on a WM PPCP device, if that fits your requirements then I guess HTC Adv. should fit your needs

Don't change his mind we are just getting on the right track grinning

If you havent got a recent laptop then a good UMPC will kill two birds with the same stone , so to speak, if finaces are a bit streched and find it hard to justify the extra on a UMPC.

I think if they get the sim interface right the HTC shift and or similar is the way to go

Lets see how it pans out over the next few months, I am.

The HTC Advantage will fit my needs for sure. Even though the HTC Shift is very nice, it's still too big (for me) to be lugged around all the time. The HTC Adv will fit in a jacket pocket or on the belt via a belt clip - something that you likely won't be able to do with the Shift. Not to mention the Shift will likely come in around the $1800-$2000 mark - much more than what I can afford.

And it looks like HTC will be updating the Advantage with WM6 before it hits US shores, and that's a good thing! Smile It looks like the US GSM cell providers won't be carrying it directly though, but Amazon.com should be able to offer it for a pretty decent price.

Every time I think of it I get even more convinced in getting a UMPC as a PDA replacement and a small PDA Phone/Smartphone for a very comfortable communication. It all matters to the size and weight, the HTC Advantage is as big as a UMPC and as I said earlier the headset is as big as a small phone, I normally like to use the phone without a headset unless I am in a car with a car kit, however it is very difficult to manage my daily life with a big phone as big as the Advantage, it is just going to be an obstruction to my free movement, for example if I parked my car and want to quickly stop at a grocery store, I would like to have my UMPC connected to GPS on a car holder and on a fly carry my small compact PDA phone or Smartphone with me in the store without any hassle, then I return back holding my shopping page with one hand and my phone with another, talking freely and returning to my car and docking my phone back into car kit and my UMPC is still connect to a GPS guide and now connected to my phone via BT on high-speed internet wireless connection and I’m video chatting with my girlfriend. This way I managed to move freely and comfortably, I was able to use both hands to carry stuff and use the phone on the same time, I didn’t’ miss any call due to inconvenience, I still utilize the big UMPC screen for GPS and also video conferencing and communication, in addition I could’ve also ordered dinner form my UMPC while I am waiting at traffic lights on my way home. I come back home I dock my UMPC on a cradle connected to a big monitor so I can finish some of my work assignments at home. This is just a situation of how I can move more comfortably with a small device and still have access to a full PC with a UMPC on the go. I don’t need to take the UMPC with me everywhere, just certain places where the full UMPC power is not needed, then the cute and small PDA can easily be utilized while shopping, jogging, party …

    buddy, well said - Smile

I am also kind of convinced that UMPC+Phone will be a good combination than a Phone in a UMPC
