This is actually the best of both worlds, and a great idea. I'd love to have something like Cingular's 8525 and the HTC Shift. The problem for me is $$$$. I'm having a tough enough time convincing my significant other that I need to sell my current PPC and upgrade it, let alone convince her that I need two new devices that would cost over $2,000 total!

It all matters to the size and weight, the HTC Advantage is as big as a UMPC

I can't agree with this. The HTC Advantage is a little bigger than the largest PDA, and smaller than any UMPC I've seen to date.

Anyway, there's a lot of new devices due out soon and I have to applaud HTC for coming out with some very interesting ones! Smile

I will grinning don't worry

Glad to see SKP/Rambler/Buddy

Have/are reaching the same conclusion (ie UMPC and a small phone)

Mind you it did cost us 4.5K JJ for us to easliy reach this conclusion.

I agree it's a costly solution but the new lugable WM6 device will leave you wishing for a UMPC after a few months, sell that and then get a UMPC will end up costing you more in the long run IMO

I think we have an advantage after owning a JJ and know once it's too big for your shirt pocket one or 2 inches more makes little difference to carry.

Best simialy I can give too those who never had a large PDA is it's like carrying a paper back vs a hardback book for a UMPC

Both wont fit in a normal pocket but the hardback (UMPC) is so much nicer grinning

Unfortunately and realisticly - I'm not likely to reach that same conclusion unless I win the lottery, which is not very likely. Morecry

If money were no object, I'd have to agree with the dual device concept. But for me money is indeed a very big part of the equation, so I'm planning on getting the Advantage as soon as it's available here. tongue

EDIT: I should also add that Amazon.com (where I'll likely purchase) has a very liberal 30 day return policy. So this should be enough time for me to determine if the Advantage will fit my needs. If not I can return it and evaluate other options then. Cool

I agree to much money but it's the prefered solution IMO

Maybe the 30days tryout will convinceyou to only eat cornflakes for the next 3 years so you can get the Dual UMPC/Phone Big Grin

Best of luck with lottery Smile

We can all agree that the price remains the most important issue in buying a UMPC coupled with a PDA Phone or Smartphone, the main point is how much you are gonna pay, and when are you gonna pay, because nowadays I think a good UMPC worth $1000 is considered a good deal IMO, or you just have to wait for UMPCs to further evolve and reduce in price, the targeted price since the UMPC was announced is $500, I really doubt that this could happen any time soon, I would defiantly set my UMPC budget to $1000 then buy a decent PDA Phone, I don’t need it with GPS, I’d rather have my UMPC with built-in GPS, I don’t need it to be big with big screen, it must come with a KeyPad, I am looking for candy-bar design, and with high-speed internet connectivity, the cost of this PDA phone will remain a mystery until new models rollout. I am thinking to set a budget of $500 for this phone, I am not sure how good a phone can be within this budget. My total investment would be $1500 (UMPC + PDA Phone)

Please do let us know when you come across that decent $1000 UMPC. rofl

However, it still remains to be seen what price point the HTC Shift will be at.

Perhaps I’m very optimistic but I came across info that the Samsung Q1 Ultra will be around $1200, I might stretch my UMPC budget and get a used PDA Phone, my point that I don’t want to spend more than $1500 in total, to me the priority goes to the UMPC then a decent PDA Phone, I like this one though http://mobilitydubaiforums.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/695604964/m/1361015391

Nice choice buddy....

Coming to the price - we get UMPCs @ $1000 - but not the latest / top-of-the-line ones... I guess...

I agree, but 1500-2000 US seems the pegged price. MA's UX was around this and thats Sony who are always high.

(A 5" WM6 is gonna cost you 1300-1500 US)

I thing for your secondary phone you will not need to spend as much HTC/imate smart flip or SE M600i are the bracket type phones IMO ie in the range of 200-300US
