I finally got myself a new toy Smile, well you’ve seen me creating new UMPC forum, exploring UMPCs form recent posts, trying to sell my old Jasjar Cry and got hooked on this great offer! Now that’s what I call money well spent! Wink

Still too early to say that I’ve gone wild but the UMPC is defiantly a new concept and it is worth to try especially that I am a road worrier and I travel a lot. Though this device is using XP Tablet PC O/S but it is not a Tablet PC click here to know why. You might think if the size could’ve been smaller but I think that the 7” screen is just right and smaller will be too cramped to do anything useful on an XP device. There are lots of other great devices available in the market such as Sony VGN-UX17 (too small for my taste), Fujitsu Siemens Lifbook (too expensive for my budget) and Flybook V33i (expensive XP Pro), they are not UMPCs but if we consider Samsung O1 it has a slower processor and no GPS. The Asus at AED 3999 should deliver more than just great value, too early for me to comment but I am going to take it everywhere to examine its portability and to test its true capabilities. Smile

All the best on your new gaggets - amoung the ever expanding GADGETS list Wink

Hope we can get more photos of the device you have got.

  • What is the hard disk yours have 20/40/80 ?
  • Does this support connectivity of external hard-disks?

Personally, I am still not for carrying for BIGger devices, and seperate ones for 'phones'... I will wait for the days when these will merge in size / weight / features factors... I HOPE it will not be a long wait

Probably one of the best UMPC's available today. Only thing disappointing is the battery life (around 3.5 hours with WiFi/BT off). There's a really good review of this device here:

Regarding battery life I think this depends on the steetings, this device can give you different performance settings: Super, Higher, DVD movie, Games, quiet office, etc.. you cna even adjust the screen display colors: Normal, vivid, etc... it is powered by splended. I think the battery performance will do much better if we adjust the processor to the lowest speed however the device will become very slow. I forgot to mention there is a builtin GPS, but GPS software is optional.

I guess that makes sense Mohd. I see UMPC's having a very good future and not going the route of say Betamax with Sony Big Grin The price factor will be one thing that will help this form-factor enter the market aggressively.

Originally when MS announced Origami, they mentioned that the devices will go as cheap as $500-$800 meaning more accessibility. That actually wouldn't be so bad considering most people purchase cellphones that expensive. I guess once the platform matures, we can hope to see more good things Smile

Keep us updated with your experience with this device Mohd. If possible, try to make a blog post asserting your most note-worthy findings.
