Again, from the IDF presentations, here's a MID running MIDLinux, the new RedFlag distribution for UMPC's that will be released in May. [MID is Intel's definition of a consumer UMPC. Mobile Internet Device.]

Its looks like a prototype and to be honest, it looks pretty ugly!

I'm wondering about MIDLinux. I quite like the idea of putting it on a Q1 or R2H to see what sort of performance increases you will get. 18 second boot time. 3.5 seconds from standby. Could be quite a nice option especially for the bloated R2H.

ZDNet reports

In a round table with Mooly Eden, head honcho of mobile at Intel, I asked "When will X86 architecture reach the performance per watt of XScale??" - in other words, when will Intel have a chip that can go into handhelds, mobiles and the like which can run mainstream Windows (and, um, OS X...) code but have the power requirements of the embedded stuff?

"Wait 24 hours - I don't want to steal the thunder of the keynotes over the next two days." He went on to say that such a chip would have fewer performance features such as speculative execution and other architectural differences, but would fit into the promised performance and power enhancements that Intel have predicted in the past. Watch the UMPC announcements to come.

What Very Confused and then spend another 1200Dhs putting Vista on, I don't think so sad

This would make a dual OS UMPC more expensive than most high end laptops
