"I happened to be at HP today and got a chance to see, hold and play with the upcoming iPAQ 6800 (name to be finalised). I hadn't read anything about it so thought I would send you a note.

It is in essence an O2 Atom but with HP firmware and in a silver case with a 6500 style plastic fold back screen guard.

It has:
Windows Mobile 5, tri-band GSM with EDGE, FM radio, 2.0MP camera, Bluetooth (with A2DP & AVRCP support), iRDA, 802.11b & Mini-USB 1.1 port. Memory: FlashROM 128MB, RAM 64MB

This is a real product and from what I hear is due for release in April '06." Source: Mobility Today

HP is actually gambling here. Quanta is relatively new in the handheld market which is why i feel they yet have a lot to learn. The only consolation factor here is that Quanta actually makes almost 90% of the laptops available in the market today. This means that, invariably each one of us has one of their manufacured products with us Smile

HP's design/innovation team is lacking in many ways. At one point of time they were the market leaders. What is awry is that after the merger between them and Compaq (which at that time was the most prominet handheld player in the market), the sales of their hand-held products actually went down the graph in time. Whether this was a badly calculated move or something else, is unknown.

In technology, there is one main thumb rule, "innovation drives competition". Perhaps, the entry of new players into the market drove HP into the state they are in today. Being the market leader in those days, they could have been light years ahead of everyone else today. Why didn't that happen? Well your guess is as good as mine Wink
