I agree with NoBackUp
I can tell from the pictures the size is too big. Who needs this type of pocket pc phone!! Didn’t they learn a lesson from i-mate JAM!! |

Have u guys seen the size comparizon between the Universal and the Jam? From wot i noticed, the Universal is not very much bigger than the PDA2k, so i dont think it shud be that much of a gross difference. But i for one feel that the Universal is going to come out with a hugeeeeee share of its own problems in regards to the new OS and 3G...

@Bu Saif,
Dont forget that this is technically a 1st generation device in terms of incorporation of 3G and WM5.0, so it will be out with its own share of problems, jus like the Imate PocketPC when it first came out and that was 2nd generation. Now with the PDA2k which is the 3rd generation device, we are able to be at a little ease, but still not perfect. So i think taking a plunge and getting the HTC Universal might be more than one had bargained for. Docc. |

Sophisticated PPC User |
Well, if the Univ deserves the label of "the smallest NoteBook in the world", then I guess that's a compliment; but the Univ, willy-nilly, is still a PPC/WM device. Docc's right about being once smitten twice shy with such devices for reasons we have all so painfully experienced. That also sets me wondering if at all PPC/WM devices will enter the realm of PCs whereby for given PPC hardware platforms you can choose to download or buy upgrades/updates/patches/Service Packs of OS and application suites just as one does in the world of standard PCs. For some reason ($$$ ?) these issues are inextricably linked with the individual device manufacturers, particular models and specific carriers. For a given processor, memory and OS we must have the same options to update to different possible versions and functionalities through say ROM config, ExtRom config, Radio Stacks, BT stacks, etc. What's so radically different in the Univ that it should have WM5 and not the PDA2k? Standardization, is what I think I am talking about. Will it happen?

First Impressions of the Univ pics makes me conclude that
1) looks like stereo speakers 2) you have to keep the screen side permanently turned to the outside, otherwise you cannot see who calls you. There is no dual screen like N9xxx. 3) Hard Keyboard looks better yo use than PDA2K 4) unless MS have done a really good job in Mob5, we are going to see a whole new set of probs 5) Since the TMobile guys have launched in Germany, Havent we got any links to German PPC sites with translated user feedback? |

The slide-out keyboard on the PDA2K proved to be very usable and practical for phone and PDA operations in the same time. Another advantage for the slide-out keyboard that it doesn’t add bulk to the device, one disadvantage is that you won’t be able to use it when the screen is rotated horizontally, that’s why the dual hinge concept on the Motorola MPX is ideal and really works |
