PalmOne launched the Treo 650 in the US yesterday.
The company unveiled the device at the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association's (CTIA's) Wireless IT and Entertainment conference. The Treo 650 is more powerful than its predecessor, the Treo 600. PalmOne swapped Texas Instruments' 144MHz OMAP processor for Intel's 312MHz PXA270 processor, which should help improve the performance of multimedia applications on the Treo 650. The sharper display will have a very noticeable effect: The Treo 650's display has a resolution of 320 pixels by 320 pixels, compared with the Treo 600's 160 by 160 pixels, which increases the visible area of the display and makes pictures and documents much clearer. Several software features were also improved on the Treo 650. The device can now wirelessly synchronize with Microsoft's Exchange email software, allowing users to access their corporate e-mail stored on Exchange servers. Users can also access POP3 or IMAP mail using the Versamail client. The new Treo 650 allows users to access up to eight different email accounts. The Treo 650 now comes with 32MB of flash memory, 23MB of which are accessible to the user. Storage is provided by Flash memory enabling expansion. The Treo 650 has a removable battery, which gives up to five hours of continuous digital talk time and over two weeks of standby time. It also supports Bluetooth for communicating with headsets, car kits, printers and other devices, and an enhanced backlit keyboard that's been redesigned for easier typing. WiFi isn't supported yet. The device will be rolled out worldwide starting in 2005. Source: PalmOne ![]() |
