"Remember how back in March a pic leaked out of a Treo 670 prototype with an HTC logo on its screen? Well, the word out of Taiwan is that HTC just scored a major contract to build the first Windows Mobile-powered Treo (aka the Treo 670) for Palm, with volume shipments set to begin in Q1 of 2006. Not that it really could have been anyone else but HTC, not only do they pump out more Windows Mobile-powered Pocket PC Phones and Smartphones than just about any other company on the planet, they’re also the contract manufacturer for the Palm-powered Treo 650, too." Source: Engadget.
This picture was posted on Smartphone Dubai our sister site (this link) and ignited the fire between the known rivalry between Palm and PPC. Since Pocket PC is leading the PDA market it is obvious that Treo will carry Windows Mobile, clearly Palm is losing momentum and practically, dying! ![]() |

well lets just say that there is a real chance that plam will be creating SMARTPHONES and using other OS's like M$ WM 05 and Linux....but to say they are dead in the water is going a little far they are currentlky out selling the Black Berry in the US...would be a great move on their part to create a device that can seamlesly sync with the M$ Exchange servers (PUSH)... dont forget that PALM is a hardware company and NOT a Software...they are remerging with the OS part so as to support the OS's development .... I am sure that we will see some NEW devices within the next few months...

So I guess you dont like PALM !!!
Lets face it PALM is a hardware maker and seller as thier CEO said " He wont fire anyone for using M$ software" due to the push they will be selling similar products with different OS's Plam is cash rich and selling well they OWN 57% of the World Market...M$ is the one trying to catch up to them....and as said aloooooong time ago "The Enemy of my enemy is also my Friend" By using your logic this would mean that HTC is also going out of buisness as they started building products based on M$ and only for BT, they now build M$, Linux and Palm based prodcuts and need to sell them to everyone to stay in Buisness To find out more about what HTC is doing for PALM Look Here and as an ODM (Original Design Manu) its actually HTC who design and made the product and I guess they want to use PALM as the BRAND to be with...the Treo650 was an OEM product ie PALM created the design and looked for some one to build it...the NEW product is the other way around..so basically a wizard (JAM-II) in a Treo Body !!!! |

If I like PALM I would’ve given this site a different name! Yes we are biased at “Pocket PC” Dubai!
The market situation for PALM (O/S) is not promising they are losing (here), and they are well aware of it, that’s why will sell Linux and Pocket PC devices inline with Palm devices! Their new OS is not going to see the light for a very long time from now (2007 or 2008).
I am talking about a Palm OS based device not Hardware made by Palm. OS Vs OS
OS Vs OS |

Yes but PALM (formally palmone) is a HARDWARE shop...PALMSOURCE ( the OS maker...which no longer exists) are (were) 2 different companies..PALM is just reacting to the market needs for thier products.. and have no intention in supporting only the OS which they had to buy in from PlamSource.
The rteason that they have no bought plamsource is to be able to garentee support from the OS, the whole point of splitting in the first place was to allow PALMONE to support any and all OS's. So the point you are making about PALM OS whilst true, has nothing to add to the fact that PALM (formally PALMONE) is doing exactly what it was set up to do, i.e. Sell thier hardware and make sure that they supply the goods that the customer wants, with no dependacies on any single OS... Which leads to the point.. "Palm OS handheld shipments declined 40.9 percent from a year ago, and it now has 18.8 percent of the world market, but again this doesn't include shipments of smartphones like the Treo. If these were included, the Palm OS would almost certainly be in second place." 18.8 percent share of the PDA (handheld) market is a good place to be in a declining overall market, and 2 be second place in the "Smartphone" market is also cool. So why did you say in your post that started this whole thread that "clearly Palm is losing momentum and practically, dying" Being 2nd "Smartpone" and with a total market share PDA+Smartphone = 57% is far away from "Dying" and puting WM05 on the Treo is one of the flexabilites which PLAM(one) was setup in the first palce to achive ? In the future (October) the same OS will drive Smartphones and PDA's in the M$ world. Which means that such easy comparisons will no longer be possible, from that time we can only compare OS's Symbian / Linux / Palm, which is just what M$ wants us to do , as we no longer can compare products (HW) which they (M$) dont create any way ! which will allow them to claim that they have the best OS as more shipped units contain it than any other , but actually by the end of this year Linux based solutions will have the upperhand if we just compair OS's as the Asian market is hung up on LX and will expand more rapidly than any of the more traditional markets not even Nokia will be able to compeate. I am again talking about the Palm operating system. As you concur with this in the following statement:
I might buy in the future a Palm made Pocket PC. |
