Not that I would splash out over 200 pounds for a fancy walkman, but this is a rather nice feature, custom made for lazing by the pool on those raqre weekends that one isn't runnign aorund, Dubai style. At least you'd think that wouldn't you?
OK I admit, an iPOD with 40GB capacity would do a much better job, especially if the tracks are suitably tagged (isn't the MS media i/f apalling? I mean, what is the point of going to all the trouble of segregating all the tracks into meaningfully named folders if Mr. Microsft deciodes to ignore path names? What's do difficult about that, winamp manages that bit just perfectly. Ok Rant mode off) But back to the subject in mind. I managed to get the iPAQ to recognise the Nevo server only when I loaded it on to the wireless anabled laptop (I just couldn't figure out a way for it to become visible behind the NAT protocol of my little home LAN - strange, because I had no trouble seeing the PC and even copying stuff from it). Anyway - the thing worked rather well for the first few tracks... if one can put up with the little gap whilst the next track get loaded over the network. However it very soon complained it was overheating (I did want it for lazing my the pool right?) Which was ok as I fixed up a solar power heat pump (wet towel)so that was OK. But then the daned thing kept complaining it was running out of memory. Which leads me to suspect that it keeps all the tracks of a single session in the PDA's RAM. A pretty stupid arrangement, when I have a palatial 1GB free on the storage card. Ah well - next time I'll copy the stuff on the network card. But at least I can control what the PC plays from outside. Not that anyone is inside to hear it of course. Anyway, excuse me but I can hear the pool calling again. --0^0-- JP, Dubai |
