Folks,
I bought today the HP iPaq 6515c from Geant in the Ibn Batutta Mall.
2 questions:
* Once I've opened the package, I noticed that there was no WiFi MiniSD card. Is this normal? Is this due there several versions of 6515 in Dubai (with and without WiFi cards?) ?
* My iPAQ is not shipped with any maps, how do I obtain the UAE or Middle-East maps? Tomtom is useless, since they don't have any Middle-East maps. So Destinator which was shipped with device looks the only alternative. Anyone tried to obtain the maps for UAE and from where?

I am not sur eif Destinator has the maps for the middle-east or just UAE for that matter. The only company providing updated maps (which IMO are flawless) is Navigon. They had released Navigon 5 with certain updates in June this year.

Does your package say that Destinator maps are available?

I tried to get some info on myeasynav (from Axiom) which just covers UAE myeasynav but no joy from thier customer support. UAE locator (Axiom/Radioshack) is more of a clever location finder than nav software. Garmin maps were a bit out of date and would only work with thier GPS reciever. I'm with Docc on this as Navigon 5 (Jumbo etc) covers 5 gulf states and is a true nav system (My son knows all the McDonalds in the UAE now from it's points of intrest Smile)
Its a bit quirky to use but read the good report on GPSpassion Guru and you will be sold. If you don't need the GPS buy from the web site as UAE only seems to sell it as a bundle with GPS/bracket etc for 2000Dhr.
regards
Steve

Actually on the SD card that was supplied, contains the Destinator software package, but without the maps.
The flash demo shows an example of Al Ain...
So I was wondering were I can get these the maps, the support of Geant is pretty crap on this subject.
Where can I buy the navigon software, in which store/mall?

As far as I can see destinator only covers North America/Europe/Australia and a bit of South America and a Global but propably limited map which may be what you had in the flash demo.
Destinator Maps
I think I gave you enough tips in my last mail on where to buy in the UAESmile I could give you the GPS co-ords but that would be useless without a decent map Big Grin

My vote goes to Navigon. Absolutely fantastic and accurate as hell!!! Even knows the internal zig-zag lanes of Bur-Dubai and Karama Smile

If the wife would let me have the car for five mins I would confirm the same. The only bit wrong so far in Abu Dhabi is the new corniche 200m extention in to the sea, its just completed but according to Navigon I'm driving on the beach worried

Hehe Big Grin

I wouldn't walk down that lane mate. Trying to take the car from the wife can be a VERY unpleasurable experience, effects of which last MANY MANY days Big Grin

And yes, the new roads are not updated in Navigon. They dont have a system of updating maps intermittently. They just release updates year by year with a completely new software package.

Oh, btw, how does it feel to be driving on the beach? Big Grin

Hi folks, went to today to Jumbo, KITE and JAcky's stores in the Ibn Battutuda... looking for Navigon 5.
Nada, nothing, zilch, I left the mall empty handed. None of these shops had Navigon 5 (or even ever heard about it!). One guy thought it was Garmin (oh my goodness).
Anyway, do I have more chance in Deira City Center or so?
