Hi, i notice the Blackberry Internet Solution has unlimited transfer for 295 per month. If i subscribe to this service (Unlimited Global) by texting “r bis295” and send SMS to 1010, would this enable GPRS on the phone? Would i then be able to use this sim card on a different phone (non blackberry) like my HTC for instance?

Also, can any data be sent over the GPRS link or does etisalat block certain ports? Do du provide a similair service?

Many thanks in advance

You dont have to use Blacberry service for gprs data plans, others exist

BB just gives you the additional pushmail service too.

The service is allocated to your account/sim so as long as your other phone can accept gprs and you put the correct settings then no problem

Hi many thanks for the reply, the trouble is i have been on Etisalat website and all the services have different names so i dont understand whats what!

I am after a GPRS unlimited plan, i know the blackberry has unlimited for a fixed price. Are there other plans available which offer GPRS but not the blackberry stuff (and therefore i presume are cheaper)? I would like GPRS for my HTC.

On another note Im also looking at the 3G data services to connect a remote workgroup location to our main office as there is no fixed internet. Im planing to purchase a PCMIA 3G Huawei e220 from Etisalat, put it in a laptop, then if i have internet access run a VPN over the internet connection to get into our main office. Does this sound doable? Will Etisalat mind about the VPN? It is only for downloading data from a time attendance system.

Many thanks in advance

Dont bother with website just call helpline 24hrs (101) it covers al etisalat services and listen through menues till you can get to a real person

I just have pay as you go GPRS but there is fixed rate ones here or dial (125)

Cant remember the number (151?)but you can also subscribe automatically by sending sms after listening to services

Once you have gprs try using phone as a modem before you buy PCMIA 3G Huawei e220 from Etisalat is my advice

g18c,

etisalat currently does not have a unlimited plan for GPRS or edge. The only unlimited plan they have is for BlackBerry devices. Even if you activate the BlackBerry unlimited plan, the unlimited data usage will only be activated for data usage on a BlackBerry device. If you are using the BlackBerry service on a BlacBerry enabled device like the Nokia E90 or phones with the BlackBerry Connect, you will only be able to use the email fetching that BlackBerry offers, you will not be able to use the unlimited plan on these devices. I tried and got heavily charged for my data usage plus the additional 295/month for the blackberry plan when I started to use BlackBerry Connect on my Nokia E90.

I know its a bit confusing so here is a summary -
*BlackBerry Devices (8300, 8800, etc) - Unlimited Plan - Unilimited Usage of Data (Browsing etc) and Emails.

*BlackBerry Connect (Nokia E90, Sony P1i, etc) - Unlimited Plan - Only Emails. Data usage (browsing etc) will be charged as per normal rates.

This was one of the main reasons why I went back to using a BlackBerry device (8300 Curve). I really love the GoogleTalk program available for BlackBerry devices. I can be online 24/7 and just pay the 295/monthly charges. This was not possible to do on devices like the E90 with BlackBerry connect because of above reasons.

Hope its clear to you now.
