from my personal experience after owning an imate pocketpc, pda2k, pda2 and jasjar..theyhave loads n loads of features far more than any other manufacturer...because of the popularity of its OS windows mobile amongst many fanatics. However, all these years of experience with pocket pc's, despite the benefits i have also faced alot of unreliabilty issues such sudden hangups in the middle of an important call, important data loss(including my imp contacts that my job depends on) or the alarm clock not functioning like its suppose to...not to mention the cheap build quality and cheap earphones they provide. My advice..if your a business man or anyone who needs a reliable mode of communication than definetely the blackberry is the right way to go...the etisalat here specially gives a good offer of unlimited internet usage with pushmail service with upto 10emails for the bb..i believe BIS only works for BB devices therefore theres no need for a wifi.

Although i've joined (re-joined) the party a little late, i'd like to spend my 0.002 on this.
I'm just going to list a few pro's and con's for both these platforms. Please feel free to chime in with your conviction's and contradictions! Pocket PC Pro's: 1) Age old OS - WM arguably has the largest developer community with literally hundreds of thousands of applications our there for you to choose from. More software - More fun! 2) Freedom of choice - Every year you see new devices from all the big manufacturers with specifications that make you drool more than your newborn! Simple example being the HTC Touch HD *grabs tissue to wipe drool off keyboard*. 3) Fantastic for both business and personal use. You can view and edit office documents right on your device. There aren't many devices that can do that....*angrily stares at iPhone*. Exchange support makes it the trusted choice for corporates. 4) Good (not great) entertainment platform - Thanks to software like tcpmp (now coreplayer), you can pretty much play every single format under the sun. 5) Highly user customizable - Anybody who has used a Pocket PC for more than a few months knows that it creates this innate necessity to start tinkering with its software innards. Who here hasn't heard of xda-dev; raise your hands! Those of you who did raise your hands; well shame on you - Its time out for you! There are quite a few more things that i could point out but that would be getting petty. Now for the Cons: 1) A decade in and now we see some signs of telephony well integrated into Windows Mobile. Wm is the the Tortoise - no doubt about it; it will win in the end. 2) Too many choices! Contradictory to my statement in the pro's but you'd be surprised as to how many people hate choices. Many people just want a device which works and especially not have to spend hours and sometimes days trying to figure out which one suits them the best! Apples and Oranges people....apples and oranges! 3) Price! I have to admit that this is perhaps the single biggest reason why PPC's haven't seen the popularity the iPhone has. It's simply out of the reach of most people. Heck, many a times you could purchase a notebook at the price of a PPC; ofcourse you can't keep a notebook in your pocket (if you can then, we really have to meet because i just HAVE to see this!) Again, there are a few more things that i could list here, but that would definitely be getting petty. Now for Blackberry. Only one thing to say here - hands down the best email/PIM device out there. Beyond that, i don't really see anything interesting about it. Again, feel free to add your thoughts and views on this topic. This should definitely make for an interesting article - Blackberry or PPC - What's good for you? |
