Guys, just curious, can anyone tell me why the only phone I have found with a jog dial is the SE 800/900/910/990 series? I find this simple tool brilliant for one handed operation. How come no one else uses it? I see the new SE range is now announced, (K790 etc.) - stil no jog dial. Maybe I am in the minority on is usefulness but I would still be interested to know why its not in wider use.

Many thanks,
Alan

Its a USP, they can't afford to have it on every phone. They need to limit "special" functions to "special" phones Wink The P990 is actually a step back as it offers a 3-way JD instead of a 5-way JD like its predecessors.

Anyhoo, the JasJam (HTC Hermes) will also offer a JD (3-way), so we can hope to have future devices support the same feature. As you said, it really helps with one-handed operation and is certainly welcome Smile

Hey Docc, many thanks for the explanation. One quick follow up question, what is a USP exactly? Time to educate the idiot!

Cheers,
Alan

No, its my fault Alan. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. What i meant by USP was "Unique Selling Point" Smile

Don't get me started on this again I already had a quick Blog on this with Docc in the Bond thread Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I think it's far better than the D button IMO as it's postion is unobtrusive on the side and sits right on your thumb.

Well glad to know I am not completely alone in my obession! I guess the phone companies know what they are doing and I take Docc's point about limiting features to certain phones to pressure sales - still seems mad to me that there is only one phone on the market currently that uses it. Will see how well Hermes performs! Thanks for the responses guys.

Hi Steve,

I did own the P800, unfortunately that got stolen a long time ago. Any thoughts on SE990 versus Hermes? Is the Windows OS that much better?

Cheers,
Alan
