I had both the SE900/910 and they were good. WM5 is getting better now. I would look at the Bond in preferance to the Jasjam it has more features and speed plus a customise 3 way JOG DIAL The sliding KB is a bit of a compramise the on-screen one like SE you would be at home with. The screen is a bit on the small side but with the portability/size it's the price you pay. The SE990 is not cutting it for me the style is a step backward and you pay a high premimum with SE. Symb 9.1 is untested and the 990 won't be out yet. rgds Steve Rgds Steve |

Hi Alan,
The P990 will be a very interesting device. It has a lot of new software customisations attributable to the latest version of the UIQ os i.e UIQ 3.0. The only drawback here is that there is 100% backward IN-compatability between UIQ 2.0 and UIQ 3.0 which means all apps have to be re-written rather than just re-compiled to work with the new OS In comparison to Hermes, it really comes down to what you are going to mostly use your device for. WM has a much larger software data-base than any other OS available today. UIQ 3.0/ Symbian will NEVER be able to reach the number and more importantly quality of software that you see for WM. I have come from an S60 to UIQ to WM and i believe that once you go WM, you can't go back. It does have its flaws which are common in all devices but there is no OS as robust as WM (i'm not a windows fanboy btw). The P990 will be more a phone than a PDA whereas the Hermes will be the exact opposite. If you need a reliable phone with fairly good PDA use, then the P990 is your device. If you wan't a PDA that can do everything under the sun including making calls, then the Hermes is your go-to toy Docc. |

Steve,
WM5 is getting a LOT better and i mean a LOT! I can honestly say that i enjoy the OS much more now in comparison to WM2003se mainly because i don't fear hard-resets anymore. Now, with the latest ROM update, i am glad i held on to the Jasjar. Its frankly the best investment i have made in a LONG time The P990 has a great set of specs with a good form-factor. Its more of a corporate device with things like Blackberry connectivity, business card scanner etc etc. It should do fairly well as with all of the P-series devices, but with the entry of other handsets like the M600i and the W950i, people now have more options Docc. |

Doh! My bad!
The P990 is actually a step backwards in terms of the Jogdial as it is now 3-way instead of 5-way. Bad move imo. Its slated for an early April release and for about $750 which means in Dubai, it should cost around $900 Docc. |

Docc/Steve,
Thanks very much for all the info. very interesting reading! Steve, another ignorant question but what is "the Bond" you referred to earlier in the discussion, code name for one of the devices? I am always fancinated by the higher spec devices but from a purely business point of vew I guess I need to put the phone functionality in front of the bells and whistles - but I always want the bells and whistles!!! One small feature that I really want is a front screen I can customise to show to-do's etc. I presume all the WM devices can do this? The P990 also? What do you guys think of the new Nokia E series phones? |

Alan,
The P990 will have all the bells and whistles like Wifi, Opera browser, 2MP cam etc etc. Regarding a desktop view, there are two very good programs for the PXXX series called Tracker and Handy-Day. Both are highly customisable and very easy to use too. For WM, there is a program called Wisbar Advance Desktop, but its a bit complicated and takes time to get used to and a tad memory hungry if i might add. Regarding the E-series, the E61 is targeted primarily at the Enterprise segment and are looking to market these as Blackberry replacements. Its a good device if all you want is to be connected all the time with some fairly decent software support. The other E-series devices imo are nothing to get excited about Docc. |

Cheers Docc,
I guess I will wait and see on the P990 versus Hermes, knowing my buying habits I'll probably end up getting whichever one makes to the maket first, guess that will be the 990 from your earlier comments. One more piece of advice I would be greatful for - which do you reckon will offer the better phone functionality Hermes or the 990? |

The P990 is a phone first so will most likely be more reliable when it comes to telephony. However, i have to add that with WM5, telephony has become quite reliable and probably even at par with other regular phones. I don't experience dropped calls or any other problems whatsoever.
Don't wait for the Hermes Alan, it's got a 300Mhz processor which is the biggest kicker of all! If you can live without the impressive software database of WM, then P990 is the device for you Docc. |

You need to visit the front index a bit more often as MA but a nice big picture there i-teq Bond Here The SE9 series are class units for business use and build quality no doubt about it and so's the price. One of the biggest draws was native support for Lotus notes out of the box and they always have latest OS and KB way ahead of others at the time. Other than the Jog dial I don't miss anything going back to WM. The same and or similar professional apps are equally available if not more now. Personally I don't think I could wait another 4/6 months for it to come out and it would be well supassed by others in that time. I think Docc is being far to kind to you Don't ever mention that "N" word in front of me again cya Steve Rgds Steve |
