The saga continues with my new Everex 500 - purchased last Thursday (5 days ago). As I become more familiar with it it becomes easier to use. However synchronizing is a nightmare. The first time I loaded ActiveSync it worked fine. I got everything I wanted sync’ed from Outlook onto the device. The next time I tried to sync however, it no longer detected the device. I tried reloading the software like the troubleshooting guide instructed, but it somehow wiped out my modem. It also corrupted my existing USB drivers. And it still wouldn’t detect the device.

I uninstalled all USB hardware, the Everex (Eten) hardware and the modem, rebooted and reinstalled all my original drivers. I don’t trust the Everex hardware/software for USB connection. I may look at installing infrared on my desktop and trying to sync that way.

I think the Everex device will be good about 2 generations down the road. Unfortunately some of us are paying the development costs for those future devices and are stuck with a buggy PDA phone. There is no apparent support for these devices. No matter what label you find it under all they show are specs and pretty photos. There is no user manual available and no tech support.

I wish I had bought something else!

Bobby

Try connecting the everex to the USB with the device not connected to power supply. I had this problem with the cradle and the supplier replaced it for me.

I agree, after some experience with the device I had lots of observations with snags related to both Hardware and Software.

It is true that there is no online support for this device yet Confused

No luck. I tried your suggestion and connected USB to device cradle with no power connection. If the problem is a faulty cradle there isn’t much I can do as the cable won’t connect directly with the device – only to the cradle. I guess I’m lucky it recharges. Unfortunately I bought it while in Dubai for the weekend and now back in Kuwait I cannot return it. Expensive lesson to learn.

After using this device for some time I noticed this is not the only major problem there are some abnormalities, such as it soft resets and some times hard resets by itself (with the engineering unit). I also noticed erratic battery readings while it is charging (observed after I installed battery pack), doesn’t search for GSM signal after coming out from a no-coverage area (observed just recently), requests for email password on every Synchronization though email syncing is not enabled, annoying echo (with engineering unit), screen colors goes crazy at times after a soft reset, the camera is useless, dust could go easily inside the device from the big gap under the SDIO slot, they could’ve made the device smaller with this screen, there is no online support, etc………..
Did you notice these issues?

At first glance this device looks nice, but you will get the real picture after using it for few days. And then putting it side by side with other devices you will realize the difference in quality.

From where did you buy it, they might consider sending you a refund.

I bought it at Plug-ins in Dubai. However they never answered the telephone when I called.

I emailed Everex Marketing and here is their UNSIGNED response:

They have a policy to replace or refund a device within one-week (or I recall two) time frame after purchase.

I just recently heard that there is a distributor in Kuwait, maybe Everex can direct you to them to provide a replacement through them.

Good idea Mohammed. I have just sent the following email to their marketing group since they have no tech support:

Dear Everex:

The email address you gave me for Tech Support does not exist. Tomorrow will be one week that I purchased the device. Will you please direct your Kuwait agent (Alghanim Electronics) to refund my money? The E500 is not able to sync, has other problems and is simply not what I was told I was buying.

Please contact Alghanim and authorize a return and let me know what my next step is.
